The Maths Mum® 'Maths for Life' Lesson 8 - Ella & Lance via Zoom

This evenings lesson was in two halves… Lance left the Zoom session with Ella and she continued and finished off the questions.  But wait to see what happens after we said bye to Ella…

Again, I will load a copy of the 15-page lesson plan workbook on to the “Maths for Life” membership page and it will be available to download for those with Premium Annual Membership.

Here is an outline of the maths that was being worked on / assessed:

1.  Number Sequencing / Reading Numbers Backwards - a great game of ‘What number is under…?’ identifying the number that is covered, reading numbers forward and backwards up to 20.

2.  Ordinal Numbers - looking at an example and then using words and sentences to help us look at ordinal numbers up to 20th.

3. ‘Count how many…’ up to 20 - counting and writing the answer.

4.  Simple Addition - a simple ‘altogether’ addition, counting how many, using concrete blocks to model and using the ‘counting on’ method to calculate the answer, creating the number sentence and remembering the answer to write it in.

5.  Simple Subtractions - a simple ‘give away’ subtraction, counting how many, recording the answer, using concrete blocks to model the ‘giving away’, creating the number sentence.

6.  Time - Reading the o’clock and recording the answer.

7.  Counting - Reading the question, deciding what to count, counting and recording the answer.

8.  2D Shapes - Selecting a square from a choice of 4 shapes.

The last three questions were taken from a Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Entry Level 1 Assessment with a bit of age appropriate modification (which is allowed).

Really proud of both Lance and Ella and you really don’t know what’s going to happen with Lance.  Keeps me on my toes.  But when he is willing I forget all about the fact that I am meant to be cooking dinner and enjoy the maths with him!!!

(Note:  No children starved as a result of making this video!)
