The Maths Mum® 'Maths for Life' Lesson 7 - Ella & Lance via ZOOM

Always up for trying something new, today’s lesson with Ella and Lance was via Zoom.  I had emailed Ella’s Mum in advance a copy of the bespoke workbook I made for the lesson and agreed the resources we would use.  I will upload a copy of the 20-page lesson plan workbook on to the “Maths for Life” membership page and it will be available to download for those with Premium Annual Membership.

Here is an outline of the maths that was being worked on / assessed:

1.  'Which one is different?' - as they have worked on this before, I started with some more challenging ones.

2.  ‘Which one is the same?’ - interesting switch to something new which you will see caused a little challenge with both Lance and Ella.

3.  More or Less - focus on looking and seeing who has more or less rather than counting to find out.

4. ‘Count how many…’ up to 10 - counting and writing the answer

** At this point Lance decided he didn’t want to do any more!! **

5.  Read, Understand and Complete - two questions completed with Ella to read, understand the instructions and draw the correct number on / in following the instructions.

6.  Simple Addition - working with Ella to do a simple ‘altogether’ addition, counting how many, matching that to the correct Numicon tile and then using the visual to ‘put them together’.

30 minutes of maths!!  Ella gets two gold stars, Lance gets one!  But they are both amazing and they are doing this after a full day at school.

As ever I share the lesson unedited… sometimes you just got to understand and accept that a child has had enough.  And although you could see Ella’s energy level drop, she stayed and finished the work.  We will do again next week.
