The Maths Mum® ‘Maths for Life’ - Lesson 2 - Lance

Here is an outline of the maths that was being worked on / assessed:

1.  Numbers 1 to 20 Flashcards already sequenced - removing a number and guessing what number is missing, encouraging counting on from a number other than one. (Resource from Learning Resources - Hundreds Pocket Chart £17.99 from Amazon)

2. Simple Comparison - More / Less - ‘Who has less…’ modelled with concrete blocks, Lance is defaulting to counting rather than considering the bigger picture, reiterating who has less, less blocks and try to make the decision purely visual.  (Resource from Learning Resources - Wipe Clean Pockets £12.00 for a set of 5)

3.  Simple Addition to 10 - Drawn in dots like a dice, checking subtilising - the ability to spot the number without counting, counting an amount, writing the number with visual clue from the number line,  recognising 'altogether' as meaning ADD, modelling using concrete blocks - ensuring independent and accurate counting with one to one correspondence, modelling number sentence formation, recall of answer, recounting but starting counting on from another number other than one, checking answer using a calculator, inputting number sentence correctly into the calculator.
