The Maths Mum® - 'Maths for life' with Ella & Lance - Lesson 1

The Maths Mum® ‘Maths for Life’ - Lesson 1 - Ella & Lance

Here is an outline of the maths that was being worked on / assessed:

1.  Counting up to and including 10 - checking one-to-one correspondence, correct number sequence, counting items laid out in a random order, understanding cardinality (how many), transferring answer from verbal to written, writing the number, and finally checking the answer is correct.

2. Counting up to and including 20 - same a before, working on strategies to ensure we count all the items once and only once.

3. Simple Comparison - More / Less and Big / Small - Can they identify in a 2D representation who has less and which is bigger?

4.  Simple Addition to 10 - relating counting to an amount, understanding the question, understanding 'zero', recognising 'altogether' as meaning ADD, modelling using concrete blocks, checking answer using Numicon maths aid and calculator.

They work brilliantly together and when one refuses the other is more than willing.  Sometimes a study partner can turn a negative relationship into a positive one.  I know I’m more willing / likely to go out running if I’m running with my running partner in crime!

Ella and Lance have been best friends since they were 3 & 4 months old.  They go to the same mainstream school.  Ella’s mum has given me full permission for her to appear in my work.
