The summer holidays are here and that means The Maths Mum is first and foremost a Mum with a little bit of maths on the side. That said, I have got lots of news to share.

A photo of little ol’ me, The Maths Mum, is currently on the home page of the National Numeracy Organisation!! I was asked to be a guest blogger on the site and they have just published my thoughts on Supporting Parents - their theme for the summer. Follow the link - take a read. Lots of people have been downloading the FREE Summer 2019 Cross Number Challenge from the website. A number crossword with hard, medium and easy level maths questions as clues. If you haven’t already got your copy follow the link to get the pdf and get solving. There is a prize in September for the photo of a complete puzzle in the most interesting place.

And if sitting down to do puzzles isn’t your thing, then take up the #SEE2DO2 challenge. It can be done anywhere - whilst walking, shopping, driving, camping, working - simply see two numbers and use them to do two sums in your head. You can chose to add, subtract, multiple or divide them. The aim of the challenge is to get us using our brains and tackling ‘mental maths’. Most of us default to using the calculator on our smart phone these days and this is a way of challenging ourselves to improve our numeracy skills. Do it with your children, your partner, at work, on the playdate. Just have fun with it. Take photos and share your numbers to challenge others using the hashtag #SEE2DO2. There are some examples below to get you started.

There have been no objections (yet…) to The Maths Mum trademark so it is still on target for becoming registered in September. I am updating the website with courses for KS1, KS2 Lower & KS2 Upper starting from mid September. Just contact me if you want to book on one.

Finally, I’ll be taking a complete break from The Maths Mum at the end of the summer break as we’re off on a family holiday and I need to spend some quality time with all my boys. And recharge my batteries ahead of the next academic year and my ever growing list of things to do and future goals!
