Happy 1st Birthday!

Newsletter - July 2019

I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but The Maths Mum has celebrated its 1st Birthday. I launched the website on 20th June 2018 and began delivering courses in July 2018. It has been a rollercoaster of a year with a LOT of learning... not just parents on my courses but me learning about business, websites, online shops, vlogging, Instagram, marketing, publishing as well as a greater understanding of how to bring the love to maths!

Although this week I found out that I didn’t get the Surrey Educational Trust grant I’d applied for, I am not disheartened. I have got big plans for The Maths Mum Year 2. I have just launched the ‘End of Reception Year (EYFS) Checklist for Mathematics’ - a booklet containing the goals, a detailed checklist and a list of fun, interactive activities to enable parents to assess and help their child. The end of Year 1 and Year 2 versions should be available in the coming weeks. And, as requested by several parents, I’m am now selling maths accessories such as number lines and place value mats on the website.

My guest blog for National Numeracy is at draft stage and I’m aiming for it to be published mid to late July. And The Maths Mum is now trademark pending and hopefully will become a registered trademark in September.

When (if?!) I get some child free time over the summer holidays, I will be developing my school offering. A Cambridge University research paper published earlier this year states that the biggest cause of maths anxiety in primary age children is the confusion between how the teacher and how their parents to it. So I aim to raise awareness of maths anxiety and try to get the message out to parents that if you want to help your child with maths then you need to do it the way they are learning it at school.

Finally courses for KS1, KS2 Lower & KS2 Upper during the holidays will be available evenings only and on demand. If you want to do a course contact The Maths Mum and we’ll get one set up.
